Thursday February 2, 2023 - Our speaker is Charlie Koenan from BeeVangelists, Milwaukee, WI.
A Milwaukee-native, Charlie “Charbee” Koenen is a serial entrepreneur, consummate teacher, and the Executive Director of BeeVangelists, a non-profit organization bringing a bee-centric vision regarding the plight of bees and the need to restore thriving communities in urban environments and beyond.
In 2009, Charlie turned conventional beekeeping on its side (literally) inventing the first Vented Top Bar Hive System, an alternative to the stacked box hive suited for urban beekeeping, and founded the company Beepods.
Since founding BeeVangelists in 2016, Charlie has served to educate the public about beekeeping and advocate for bees establishing Community Support Pollinators (CSPs) programs and working with private institutions to install and care for urban apiaries. Bringing communities together, these apiaries can now be found in school campuses, church rooftops, retirement homes, golf courses, ecology centers, and numerous backyards throughout the Milwaukee area.
Thursday March 2, 2023 - Our speaker will be Dave Meyer of Meyer Bees. He will be speaking about Spring Management and Installing Packages.
Thursday April 6, 2023 - Our April 6th LCBA Meeting will have two presentations. The first guest speaker will be Carol Smith of Sustainable Gardens, Pesticide Free Native Plants, Pollinator Garden Design in Lake County, Illinois. Her topic will be Planting a Pollinator Garden.
Our second speaker will be Derald Kettlewell, Past President of the Wisconsin Honey Producers Association and president of Badger State Apiaries. His topic will be Commercial Beekeeping in Southeastern Wisconsin.
Thursday May 4, 2023 - This month's meeting will be devoted to a Q & A session. Our distinguished panel of experts will be Josh Boller, John Leibinger and Perry Plescia.
Thursday June 1, 2023 - Our speaker will be Tom Mollenhauer of TGM Insurance Agency, Inc. He will be discussing Beekeeping Insurance.
Thursday July 6, 2023 - Our speaker this month will be Karen Belli. She will be presenting about Getting Your Honey Ready (bottling honey, product presentation, etc.)
Thursday August 3, 2023 - Picnic! - $5.00 per person in advance for our 2023 Annual Picnic at the Belli Farm. The picnic will be in place of our regular August meeting. It will be $10.00 per person at the door. You can arrive at 4:30 p.m. and dinner will be served at 6:00 p.m.
Thursday September 7, 2023 - We will be talking about Preparing for Winter. It will be a Q & A session with our panel of experts consisting of Josh Boller, John Leibinger and Perry Plescia.
Thursday October 5, 2023 - This month we will be doing a Honey Tasting! What a great way to be spending an evening...tasting some delicious honey and conversing about our bees!
If you want us to try your honey you are more than welcome to bring it.
Thursday November 2, 2023 - This month we will have Petra Ahnert coming to speak about Products from the Hive: Seasonal Gifts. She is the author of Beeswax Alchemy and Beehive Alchemy.
Thursday December 7, 2023 - Our meeting topic is "In the Kitchen with Ron the Beekeeper" presented by Ron Fisher.
The meeting is at State Bank of the Lakes, 50 Commerce Drive, Grayslake IL 60030. Informal questions and discussions at 6:30, Formal meeting at 7PM.
